Virtual Harkness circles create a space for student discussions centered on students’ experiences and opinions outside the classroom. This platform will allow students to collaborate outside of their classroom and work on developing important skills. We are developing an interactive Harkness platform to assist in strengthening these skills.
A significant emphasis is placed on students expressing their knowledge in written form. However, it is also important for students to learn how to prepare for discussions as both a speaker and a listener. Students can prepare for a class through this platform or work on developing skills such as how to ask quality questions, prepare discussion strategies, listen, and learn from other students' ideas. Virtual Harkness will allow kids who have a challenge in participating in classroom discussions, the opportunity to practice and develop these skills. Each Harkness topic will have a classroom culture for collaborative learning. Below are the short stories that we have started a virtual Harkness circle. Check back with us as we will continue to add additional short stories. Madison.Lewis@ocliteracysociety.com
