Short stories are an excellent teaching tool for middle schoolers because it is a great way to engage those students who cannot sustain attention for an entire novel as well as it enables teachers to cover many important skills that would normally take long periods of time. As such, short stories and their short story audios are the perfect solutions to teach reading skills, comprehension skills, literacy concepts (themes, foreshadowing, symbolism, etc.), and develop group collaboration skills in an entertaining way.
Below are some fun and highly recommended short stories and their related short story audios that you can utilize to practice your reading comprehension and test-taking skills. These stories have been recorded by dedicated members of the OC Literacy Society. They are handpicked by the members along with various middle school teachers. Please read along while listening to the storyteller. This will allow you to hear the words while you see them to efficiently better your comprehension. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
We are developing an innovative interactive Harkness Circle designed to enhance and strengthen collaboration skills. This dynamic platform will incorporate popular short stories and utilize the storytelling techniques we teach to foster meaningful dialogue. It will encourage the sharing of diverse perspectives while promoting active listening, critical thinking, and teamwork. Stay tuned and check back with us to experience this exciting tool for transforming group collaboration and engagement!
